Third Party EPUBs and PDFs not Showing Up in iOS Finder Sync

In my book library on my Mac, I have a combination of books I've purchased in the Apple Books Store, as well as EPUB files I've purchased on other sites and imported into my library, and PDFs.

But when I try to sync my phone or iPad in the Finder, under the Books tab, only the items purchased in the Books Store are there. None of my other EPUBs or PDFs show up in the list and thus I can't sync them to my devices. Is there a fix for this?

Hi crg2k,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with viewing your EPUBs and PDFs on other devices. We'd like to help.

While it's expected to only see purchased items when you open Books on other devices, you should also be able to view the uploaded files through the Files app.

Use your Mac to add a PDF to your Library

  1. On your Mac, open Apple Books.
  2. Find your PDF file in the Finder or on your Desktop and drag the file into your Library.
  3. Your PDF will be available in the Books app on any iPhone, iPad, or Mac, as long as you're signed in to the same Apple ID and have iCloud Drive turned on for Books.

Let us know how that goes.

Take care!
