Hey there fairfight,
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. To get started, have you had a chance to go through all the steps listed in the 'Related Article', If your built-in camera isn’t working on your Mac that was shared on this thread?
If so, we'd also recommend testing the issue in safe mode, and in a test user account using the steps in the following resources below:
Testing the issue in safe mode can help to determine if the issue may be caused by some software that loads as your MacBook starts up, while testing the issue in a new user account can help determine if the issue is isolated to your account or if the issue is system-wide.
Keep us updated on the results after going through the steps above, and we'll continue from there.
Take care!
Hey fairfight,
Beyond what's already been done, it would be possible to run an Apple Diagnostic on your Mac to see if it sees the camera. From all accounts however, it sounds like a hardware issue that more than likely wouldn't be resolved via an erase and install. Steps for the diagnostic vary a bit based on the type of CPU your Mac has inside it, so check out this site to learn how to Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac. If you get to the end and are given a code, you can review the meaning of that code in this list of Apple Diagnostics reference codes. In most cases, that test will let you know if there's a form of hardware issue. Above and beyond that, the Apple Store technicians will likely have the best idea of next steps.
Be well.
Hello fairfight,
Thanks for running that test. We had hoped to get an exact idea of the cause, but since there was no issues found, but your camera is still not detected, it's now time to have the hardware checked at an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store.

Or contact Apple Support: Apple Support
Thanks.
I tried all the recommended remedies. I took it to the Apple Store and they said the only fix is to replace the whole display. Does that sound right to you ? They didn’t look at the computer at all,
just said that if I tried all those solutions that’s all there is left to do. Is it worth a full wipe/reinstall of op system ?
The test can be back showing no issues at all.
