‘Accessory not supported’ pop ups…

I keep getting ‘Accessory not supported’ messages on my iPad Pro, which I think relate to the Smart Keyboard. The keyboard is working fine, but I keep getting the message pop ups every few minutes, which I have to dismiss. How do I stop them?

Hi M_MacLaren,

We can definitely understand wanting to use your Smart Keyboard with your iPad. There are a couple steps you can try when you get this Accessory not supported" error message:

  1. Confirm the iPadOS is up to date. You can experience unexpected issue when the iPadOS is not up to date. Check out how to update here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
  2. Confirm the connection is free of debris and is not damages

Hope that help!

See >>> If you see an ‘Accessory may not be supported’ alert - Apple Support

If you are using a Smart (folio) keyboard, the alert is typical of a faulty folio keyboard. The electrical connections that pass though the flexible fabric hinges typically fracture - this usually resulting in errors and/or the on-screen notification that you see.

The Smart folio keyboard itself is not repairable. The only remedy is replacement of the keyboard.

You will find the Support link at top-right of this page.  Alternatively, you can initiate a support case using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your device, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

A further alternative is to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store, where the technicians will be delighted to assist. When visiting the Genius Bar, a reservation is recommended:
