Lost scanning ability on Neat scanner with macOS Ventura

Hello, I have a Neat branded scanner that I've been able to use reliably.

I updated to Ventura and this is the only device that I seem to have lost my ability to scan.

I tried downloading and installing the NeatScannersICDriver but the Installer ends off with a failure to install message.

I dug around in the Console and Terminal and discovering that it seems to be trying to access

/System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Carbon

which does not exist in this version of macOS.

The funny thing is that Apple seems to have linked alias in the root of the Carbon.framework folder that also points to this missing file.

/System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Carbon

I checked on my M1 iMac that is still running macOS 12 and Carbon isn't there and neither is the linked alias. I installed the driver on that iMac and it installs without problem.

So I'm not sure if my install is mangled and that linked alias (that I can't remove) is causing the problem or something else.

Can someone check their

/System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/

and see if their install of macOS 13 has this linked Alias that is pointing nowhere?

And if someone wants to be extra helpful could they try installing the Neat scanner driver on their macOS 13 install to see if it fails or not?

And better yet, if you have a Neat scanner and it still works under macOS 13, could you check to see if that linked alias is present or not?

Cheers and thanks. I have a bunch of documents to scan and I would be able to use my older Macs to scan, I'd much rather be able to do it from my MacBook Pro.

Neat's website says that the software is now provided “as is” and no support is available and that support staff won’t help.

So I’m trying to track the issue down myself with my question about the Carbon Framework alias to know if there is something wrong with my Ventura installation or something else. Reinstalling my computer is a lot of work and if I can determine if it’s a framework required by the driver that’s been deprecated or something else it would save me the trouble of reinstalling for nothing and just use my older iMac for the scanning and transferring it to my MacBook Pro. When I try to open the executables in the driver it’s making a call to the nonexistent framework but macOS 12 doesn’t have it either and it worked but this strange linked alias in macOS 13 that is pointing to the nonexistent Carbon file might be issue.

I'm asking folk here if they can check their macOS Ventura installation and tell me if they have that extraneous linked alias or not. That will help me with my next steps.
