Scanning with Dell E514dw in Mac OS Ventura 13.1

I upgraded to Mac OS Ventura 13.1, and I can no longer scan with my Dell E514dw, which has otherwise functioned really well and isn't that old (purchased in 2017). It looks like Dell's drivers might not have been updated since Catalina (10.15). Is my scanner now garbage? So sad.

Hi there applestrudel7,

Can you tell us more details on whats happening when you try to scan with your Dell E514dw? We want to make sure we understand whats happening when you try.

To confirm, now with macOS Ventura, you are following the steps below to use your scanner, correct? We're asking this as System Preferences has changed to System Settings which is different from other previous macOS versions.

"Scan images or documents using a scanner and your Mac

If you have a scanner or a printer with a scanner, you may not need any special software to scan an image.

Before you scan, you need to open your scanner. Then, follow the instructions for either a document-feeding scanner or a flatbed scanner.

Note: The following options might not be available for your scanner. If these instructions differ from what you see onscreen, refer to the documentation that came with the app you’re using.

Open your scanner

  1. Connect your scanner to your Mac, plug it in, and turn it on.
  2. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Printers & Scanners  in the sidebar. (You may have to scroll down.)
  3. Click the printer or scanner in the Printers list on the right, then click Open Scanner.

If you don’t see an Open Scanner button, you may need to set up your scanner, or check the documentation that came with your scanner to see how to perform scans."

Those steps are from this article: Scan images or documents using a scanner and your Mac - Apple Support It also has steps on how to scan if you have a document-feeding scanner or a flatbed scanner, which might also be helpful.

We hope that helps.

Take care!

If you can't find a driver for the scanner that works you can give the VueScan  demo a try. If it works you can purchase the Pro version and get a years update (which is usually adding new scanners to the mix). If your scanner stops working with VueScan with later systems you'll have to purchase it again. But that would be somewhat remote.

Addendum: I forgot to include that your scanner is AirPrint compatible according to this Apple document, About AirPrint - Apple Support so it should be able to connect wirelessly for printing an scanning. Try this Apple document: Reset the Mac printing system to solve a problem - Apple Support

The VueScan is an alternative if the others don't work.
