Unable to retrieve a deleted message

After tapping edit, there is no “show recently deleted“ option. I can’t find a setting to turn it in. Has anyone else figured this out?

The frustating details......

First, you have to have iOS 16 or higher installed on the phone.

Second, the message must have been deleted......after....iOS 16 was installed on the phone.

Third, the message can only be restored up to about 30 days from the time that it was deleted.

If you deleted a message.....before....you installed iOS 16, nothing will appear in Recently Deleted. In fact, Recently Deleted likely will not appear until a message is deleted that meets the requirements.

The message is gone if it was deleted before you installed iOS 16.
