Pages iPad Spell check problems

Recently the spell check in my pages became stuck in another language. It highlights most of the words as misspelled and all the suggestions are French words. The system language I have is English and it works correctly in other programs. I only have ‘keyboard’ in English and emoji..nothing else. How can I set my pages to spell check in English?

Pages-iPad OS-Spell check doesn’t recognize common words. Out of 32 words in the first para of a writing project, Pages on iPad identified 16 correctly spelled ones as wrong. Language is set to U.S.English. I’ve tried toggling spellcheck on and off. No help. Tried quitting and restarting Pages. No help. Tried rebooting the iPad. No help. Thanks in advance for any help. What happened to Pages "Learn Spelling" function? Pages "learn spelling" worked until two weeks ago (~10/17/22) on iPad Air 3rd Gen, Vers. 15.7.1. Then no longer activates, no matter which keys/commands used. Updated Pages to 12.2 and still no option or pop-up. Tried all types of fixes, workarounds, including restricting to one language and keyboard (English, US, then tried GB). Used to work with 5 or 6 languages loaded. VERY USEFUL FUNCTION. PLEASE FIX! Also now seeing same issue with Pages on Mac (Monterey 12.6.1). Pages was excellent before. Now a big pain. DICTIONARY(-ies) MUST BE ABLE TO BE UPDATED. Sent to Apple. Anyone else with this issue?

Auto correct on Pages - very frustrating? When I am writing on an iPad OS 17.2 the auto correct really slows me down and this is a recent problem. If it corrects a word, it highlights it and should I have the temerity to go back and add a punctuation mark it swiftly deletes it, because there is no way of removing the highlight. Even accepting the change and moving on does help because if I return to add to the word to add punctuation it is automatically highlighted. Once selected always selected it appears! The only solution I have found is to type in the correctly spelt word, which is time consuming. Is this driving anyone else mad? Is there a way of fixing this, even if I have to turn off auto correct, which I would rather not do? I can see no way on an iPad to change my Pages preferences,

Good suggestion however, I unchecked all dictionaries except English and it still didn’t help. Any other ideas?

make sure also that French is not checked in your settings for Dictionary
