Recently updated my macbook pro and the layout of the System Preferences has changed. When I go to my Storage settings, I also notice that my Optimize Storage option is not available. I've restarted my computer and checked for updates. I've also done a search for "Optimize" and nothing shows up. Ideas?
Just to let you know @dialabrain, I wanted to downgrade my OS to try and fix the problem, but my computer didn't give me that option. So, I reinstalled Ventura, took a look, and everything appeared as it should. BUT... after I migrated my backed up files the issue RETURNED. Thank you for your time. Any thoughts are appreciated. The silver lining is that I did ultimately optimize my storage space, but eventually I will run into the problem again unless there is a patch found before it becomes an issue. Thank you for your time!
Thanks for getting back. From your post it seems there is something in the files you are migrating over that is causing a problem.
You could try creating a new admin account, log out of your current account and into the new account and see if you have the same problem.
Well, that did work. So, if I understand correctly, I'll need to basically keep my migrated files away from my new admin account in a separate area (partition?) to avoid the issue. Would you agree with that? Perhaps I could drag and drop my files instead of migrating everything?
Try booting into Safe Mode then restart normally.
System Settings > General > Storage.
No option for optimizing...
Tried booting in safe mode. Didn't change anything. Reset NVRAM and System preferences controller. Ran first aid. Reinstalled OS... No change!?
Migrating only your data files (documents, photos, videos, music, etc.) and no system or application files should be okay.
