FaceTime Issues

Is anyone else having an issue when on FaceTime going from the car speaker to the phone speaker? When I try to get out of the car for some reason my phone does not automatically disconnect from my car speaker, when I try to manually switch from the car speaker to the phone speaker the FaceTime automatically hangs up. It’s been doing this ever since I got the iPhone 14

Hey there _tae,

To help isolate things a bit more, let us know if you continue to experience the same issue when you attempt to change audio output for FaceTime when you're connected to a different device. For example:

  1. Connect Bluetooth headphones - Pair a third-party Bluetooth accessory with your iPhone or iPad
  2. Make a FaceTime call - Make and receive FaceTime calls on iPhone
  3. Change audio output to the built-in iPhone speaker by tapping the speaker button.

If the FaceTime call doesn't disconnect, then the behavior would be isolated to when it's connected to your car stereo. In this case, we'd recommend checking the following:

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth, and turn off Bluetooth. Wait for about 5 seconds, then turn Bluetooth back on.
  2. Make sure that your stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

Regards.

Hi _tae,

Does this persist with both regular calls and FaceTime Audio calls? How about with all contacts? Have you tried restarting the iPhone to see if the issue persists? This can sometimes help with minor software issues. We also recommend keeping your device up-to-date whenever possible. Additionally here's some information from the If you can't make or receive a FaceTime call on your iPhone or iPad resource that might be helpful:

1. Update your device to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS if needed.
2. In the Settings app, tap Cellular. Make sure that your phone line turned on. If you use multiple SIMs, make sure that the phone number you want to use is selected and turned on.
3. In the Settings app, tap FaceTime. Turn FaceTime off and then back on.
4. Tap the phone number that you want to use with FaceTime.

The answers to your questions will help us narrow your issue down better. We look froward to hearing back from you.

Take care.

Hi! Yes, it’s with all FaceTime calls no matter who it is. My phone is up to date as far as the software, I have 16.1.1. It’s the weirdest thing. If I’m on a regular call, I can go from Bluetooth to the phone speaker with no issues, it’s only FaceTime. I’ve even tried restarting my phone. It’s almost like it tries to connect to the phone speaker but then automatically tries to reconnect to the car and then it just automatically hangs up.

_tae,

Thanks for the details. We'd like to learn more to see how we can help. When this happens, what kind of signal strength are you seeing for your cellular network connection? Do any error messages appear on the screen when the FaceTime call disconnects?

If you turn off Bluetooth on your iPhone before attempting to switch the audio on the FaceTime call, does that seem to make a difference?

Regards.
