AirPods and Call Failures

It's taken me several days to track this down and I am unsure if it is related to the IOS 16 update, but the problems seem to coincide with that update.

I am having persistent issues with call failure and Hey Siri when I am using my AirPods. If I answer a call by clicking the AirPods, the call connects but I cannot hear the caller and then I get a Call Fail notice after a few seconds, trying to call back also results in a Call Fail unless I turn airplane mode on/off or take the AirPods out. I am also inconsistently able to use Hey Siri on any device (phone, HomePods) if my AirPods are in my ears. As a final issue, I am having significant problems with calls going silent even when my cellular signal is good, again only when I am using my AirPods.

I have reset the AirPods and disconnected/reconnected without any resolution. I have removed all bluetooth connected devices except for an Orbit Card and my Apple Watch.

If your AirPods Pro aren't working as expected during calls, let's start by updating your iPhone to the latest software version, which is iOS 16.1.1. If needed, learn how to update here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Also, afterwards, connect your AirPods Pro to your iPhone to ensure they're running the latest firmware version, which is 5B58. This link provides more information: About firmware updates for AirPods - Apple Support
