Hey JohnB1938,
Can you tell us what's not working for you when trying to use QuickTime? The more information about what's happening when you try to use it, the better we can help troubleshoot with you.
Have you seen the QuickTime Player User Guide for Mac - Apple Support?
We look forward to hearing back from you!
hmm... works for me in Ventura.
Remove all 3rd party virus apps (Avast, Bitdefender, Intego, MacAfee, Norton, ESET NOD32 etc) and 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up" apps (CleanMyMac, MacKeeper etc). They produce only obscure errors and money loss.
Oh, and also QBitTorrent produced weird errors for some users a while ago:

An EtreCheck report could be helpful:

A recording of a video with QT starts OK and will continue recording until all of a sudden the recording of the video stops. The net result is that only a portion of the video is recorded. The cut off occurs anywhere and at any time during recording.

what are you choosing for your "save to" location? I know that in my instance, I have issues with longer recordings stopping unexpectedly and / or failing to save when I have anything other than "desktop" selected as my "save to" location.
I have this problem too. Everything is greyed out - specifically cannot get the Trim feature to activate. No the file is NOT locked.
Mine is new apple macbook air m2. The quick time player is not even opening as a window.
The save to location is "desktop".
then I will echo Matti Haveri's suggestion. please download and run EtreCheck and post the results here for us to look at. the report will not reveal any personal information. (like serial numbers)
