how do I make a copy of my emails on an external drive
Will Time Machine back up email. I need to restore my macOS and don't want to loose my emails. Is there a way to copy them to an external drive if necessary ?

Make a Backup:
You need to create a backup your eMail account. You would export them in full, or in batches. Find Out how to here: Import or Export Mailboxes in Mail on Mac - Apple Support
