Apple TV 4K. Having to reconnect airplay audio YouTube again and again and again?

Hello everybody!


maybe someone here can help me out.


All af a sudden I’m having trouble with airplay audio from my Apple TV 4K (model a2169 32Gb).

Using the same setup without problems for a long time (audio from Apple TV to airport expres/WiiM attached to amplifier through optical out). Since two weeks when using YouTube app, I have to reconnect to my airport express for audio a lot.

Sometimes every minute or so, sometimes every commercial and/or new video. Have tried everything I could think of. From checking my network and airport expres (and finding no changes, or problems) to power savings settings, to latest updates on all devices. Now trying a WiiM mini streamer with the same results.


Can’t choose another default speaker than tv-speaker (the hdmi connection to the monitor attached, I think?) from the Apple TV, can only choose the WiiM (or airport before) as temporary output. This doesn’t solve it either.


sorry for the long story, but I just can’t solve this problem and it’s driving me crazy!!

With the issue happening with YouTube and not the other apps, contact the YouTube developers. They can investigate this issue and possibly provide additional steps to try. To reach them, please follow this:


  1. "Open the App Store on your Apple TV.
  2. Search for the app, then choose it.
  3. The app's product page appears. Scroll to the bottom of the page. Find the developer's website in the Information section.

In the App Store on Apple TV, the developer's website is at the bottom of the app's page.

Hello Dekoos75,


If you haven't yet, we'd recommend restarting the Apple TV, WiiM, AirPort Express and the Wi-Fi network.


Restart Apple TV - Apple Support


Restart Apple TV

Do any of the following:
- Press and hold both the Back  (Siri Remote 2nd generation or later) or  (Siri Remote 1st generation) and TV   buttons on the Siri Remote until the Apple TV status light blinks rapidly.
- Disconnect Apple TV from the power outlet, wait five seconds, then reconnect it.
- Open Settings  on Apple TV, go to System and select Restart.


We'd also check for any Bluetooth and wireless interference: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference - Apple Support


After this, does the issue only occur when playing content from the YouTube app? To isolate this further, we'd test other apps to make sure.

Thank you for the reply.


Have restarted and reset everything before multiple times, but will give it a another go tonight.

At the moment (as far as I'm aware of) it only happens when using youtube. Haven't encountered these problems with ziggo, (apple)tv+, Netflix, Amazon prime yet, but will also do some tests again.

Nothing changed in my system, or house, apart from changing the airport express to the Wiim to try and solve this (which it didn't). Network and all other devices attached are the same. Only real change seem to be the update to the latest new tv-os (I think) and IOS on my apple devices. But not sure if this was at the same time the problems started, as everything updates automatically.
