Don't know why but recently I have not been able to add a contact to any of my contacts groups. I know you cannot add them to a "smart list" but don't think any of mine were created that way. In any case I do not know how to tell if they are and how to change them if so.

OK, then they are the "regular" ones. It is in the normal "contacts" tab. I open the "contacts" tab, click on "all Google or All Could", highlight the name I want, drag his blue bar to the group I want to add him to, then nothing. In the past, the group highlights and he is in.
Mine doesn't highlight after dropping, but the contact is added to the List.
A Smart List will be shown under the header, "Smart Lists."
Any error messages?
