The volume buttons on my new Apple TV remote randomly switch my Sony tv to retail display mode (which is a pain to disable). It seems to happen if I press the volume up button multiple times in quick succession, however, it has happened from a random up or down press as well.

"Restart your remote
and the Volume Down button 
at the same time. Hold the buttons down for about 5 seconds, or until the status light on your Apple TV turns off and on again. Further troubleshooting steps are listed in that same article. Let us know if you have any questions.
