Hi JimdHarrington,
Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!
We understand that you're seeing duplicate contacts in the same group on your iPhone. Is this happening with iCloud contacts? If so, you can remove duplicate contacts on your computer as outlined here: If you see duplicate contacts after setting up iCloud Contacts - Apple Support
On your Mac
1. Make a copy of your contacts.
2. Open Contacts.
3. From the Card menu, select Card > Look for Duplicates.
4. When asked, click Merge.
5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until no duplicates are found.
6. Make another copy of your iCloud Contacts.
On your Windows PC

If you're only using your iPhone to store your contacts, you can delete the duplicate contacts on your iPhone as outlined here: Manage and delete contacts on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
Delete a contact
When you delete a contact, it permanently deletes it from your device. If you delete a contact from your email account, you also permanently delete the contact from all devices signed into that email account.
To delete a contact:
1. Open Contacts and tap the contact that you want to delete.
2. Tap Edit.
3. Scroll Down and tap Delete Contact then tap Delete Contact again to confirm.
We hope this helps.
Cheers!
