Hi JohnAPascal,

You started from a great resource: If your AirPods Pro (1st generation) make crackling or static sounds

For help with your AirPods, check to see if there's a difference when switching your microphone settings. The section "Set Microphone to left, right, or automatic" at the bottom of the article here can assist: Change the settings of your AirPods and AirPods Pro

If the issue continues, reset your AirPods and reconnect to test. How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

You can also find helpful information for cleaning your AirPods here: How to clean your AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and EarPods

Should the issue remain when using any call app after the reset, reach out to Apple Support directly to further assist.
