turn off the light after xx seconds [HOMEKIT]

Hi,

with homekit automation it's possible to do something when a trigger is fired. E.g., I can turn on the "light-2" when the "light-1" is on; it's possible to execute the action after n-seconds.

I did not find a way to make a timer that:

  • when the "light-2" is turned on
  • wait n-seconds
  • then turn off "light-1"

is this possible?

The automation logic available with Homekit is very limited. You cannot do simple IF-THEN operations that you describe. The closest to this is that when you create an automation to turn a light or outlet on you can set it to "Turn off after ... seconds/minutes/hours".

However the current issues with OS16 mean these have stopped working reliably for me.

Hi g.altieri,

Currently, it is possibly to customize the time an automation runs but cannot set up a timer in the way described.

According to Create scenes and automations with the Home app - Apple Support

Create an automation that runs at a specific time, on certain days, and based on who’s home.

1. In the Home app, tap or click the Add button , then select Add Automation .
2. Choose A Time of Day Occurs, then choose a time and day. Tap or click People to have the automation occur at a certain time when someone is home. Tap or click Next.
3. Select scenes and accessories to automate, then tap or click Next.
4. To adjust an accessory on iPhone or iPad, touch and hold it. On Mac, click the accessory. To preview the automation, tap or click Test This Automation.
5. Tap or click Done.
