Dragging and dropping image / photo into emails and documents

Before Ventura I was able to drag and drop an image / photo from desktop to an email / Pages document. Since Ventura with Stage Manager on any documents on my desktop disappear when an email or Pages document is open, meaning I can't drag and drop any more. I guess I could switch off Stage Manager but at the moment the only way I can do it is to (1) minimise the email/Pages to the screen left, (2) copy the desktop image when it reappears, (3) re-open the email or document and then (4) paste it into the reopened document. Given how central inserting content into documents is I am wondering if I am missing anything. The workflow under Ventura with Stage Manager seems to be less efficient. What was one simple drag and drop has now become a 4 stage process. Has anyone found a way round this?

I might suspect third party interference here...

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/Anti-Virus/VPN

all known to cause issues on the macOS

To trouble shoot further you can:

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

—SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Takes a bit longer to get to the login screen, does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, font cache, etc., third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

a reboot will put it back to normal mode.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

I would turn off StageManager if you continue to have issues with it as is...and compare your results.

Turn Stage Manager on or off

"On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Desktop & Dock in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Go to Windows & Apps on the right, then turn Stage Manager on or off. Click Control Center in the menu bar, then click Stage Manager to turn it on or off."
