iPod shuffle with new MacOS 13.0 Ventura

How can I use iPod shuffle with new MacOS 13.0 Ventura? With Monterey I could see what was loaded on the iPod. The Music app screen says this iPod is shown on another screen- no it isn’t!

If it's not possible I would prefer to go back to Monterey- is that possible?

Hey barberlives 123,

Thanks for your suggestions. As you see below I have tried them, including the latest Ventura update but still no joy;

1. Look in the Finder or iTunes -as you can see from the screenshots I sent i have done that (remembering that there is no iTunes on MacBook).

2. Update the software on all devices- I have just updated the MacBook and obviously can’t update the iPod until the MacBook shows the relevant screen  (like it used to before I updated to Ventura!)

3. Connect your device directly to your computer- the iPod is connected- that’s why it shows on the side panel of the Music app (see screenshot)!

4. Trust your computer, if asked- it did ask on the very first occasion that I connected the iPod after updating the MacBook to Ventura.

5. Restart your devices- tried that too!

6. Try a different port, cable, or computer- the MacBook Air only has 2 usb-c ports and I’ve tried both!

After trying everything I still get the message ’This iPod is open in another window’ (just like in the screenshot in a previous message).

Monterey was excellent on my MacBook! Can I get it back? Will I ever be happy with my MacBook again?

Peter

Hello user1-2,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Does your iPod shuffle appear in the sidebar of finder? This may help:

"Use the sidebar in Finder windows

The sidebar in Finder windows contains shortcuts to AirDrop, commonly used folders, iCloud Drive, devices such your hard drives, and more. Like items in the Dock, items in the sidebar open with just one click.

To change the items in your sidebar, choose Finder > Settings (or Preferences) from the Finder menu bar, then click Sidebar at the top of the settings window. You can also drag files into or out of the sidebar.

If you can't see the sidebar, choose View > Show Sidebar from the menu bar in the Finder. Or press Control-Command-S.

More details can be found here: Get to know the Finder on your Mac

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Does your iPod shuffle appear on any other user accounts? Also, are there any available updates for your Mac?

Cheers!

Thank you Omar_A1

I appreciate your message but unfortunately I am no further forward.

As you see from the screenshot below my iPod shuffle appears in the sidebar in Finder window but SHOWS IT AS A USB DRIVE WITH NO CONTENTS! (Not as an iPod) The other screenshot shows how it appears in the Music app. It worked fine before I updated to Ventura. With Monterey I could see all the music and podcasts that were loaded on the iPod.

Is there any chance I could get back to how things were before I updated to Ventura? I was really happy with how everything worked.

Thanks,

Peter

Thank you for those answers user1-2,

In your previous messages we saw that Finder was seeing the iPod as a generic storage device. What happens if you try connecting the iPod to a different Mac or Windows PC with iTunes installed?

If your iPod shuffle continues to not be recognized, the issue might actually be with the iPod, but if it is visible on a different computer that would be helpful to know as well so we can focus our next steps.

Let us know how it goes.

We are here for you.

Thanks for the suggestions Advisor MP,

As you suggested I tried connecting the iPod to my friends Windows PC with iTunes installed- it worked fine. But sadly no improvement with this second-rate Ventura operating system.

Please note; even though the Finder is now seeing the iPod as a generic storage device that is exactly what the Finder said previously with Monterey and everything worked fine previously with Monterey.

With Monterey I could see all the music and podcasts that were loaded on the iPod also an option to reset iPod- just the same as on my friends PC today. All this information/options used to appear on a pop-out screen reached via the Music app. It worked fine before I updated to Ventura. I would like to get back to Monterey.
