Facetime audio changes to video during call without permission

I just received a call with Facetime audio. i put the iPhone on my ear and as we were discussing the caller decided to change to video. All of a sudden I had a voice shouting at my ear from the main speaker at full volume!!! Ouch

I thought that I accidentally accepted the call with my ear or something (which is not supposed to happen anyway) and I tried to reproduce the mistake...

This time I had the phone in my hand but the call changed to video without me accepting it or doing anything to the phone.

This error happened after I upgraded to iOS 16.1

I think I have a temporary hearing loss from that ear.

Has anybody else experienced the same problem? It seems like a bug!

Hey there Meddok,

Have you tried restarting your iPhone since first noticing this behavior? If not, give this a try and test to see if it helps:

1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

Restart your iPhone

Should it persist, we recommend using the guidance with making and receiving calls in the link below. Also, check out the audio options available on screen when making/receiving calls.

Take care!

Thank you for the answer. I followed your recommendation but the problem still reappears. When I am in a Facetime audio call and the other person wants to change to video, my phone immediately shows the video from the caller and turns the audio to the speaker without letting have the option to accept Facetime video this or not.

Except from being annoying and troubling from the privacy point of view, it is also dangerous for the hearing!
