I have an Apple Watch that’s only a year old. The screen has started to go dim on its on. I’ve checked brightness on the watch and phone and it’s set to maximum. I’ve turned on/off etc but that’s made no difference. However when you shine a bright light on the screen it brightens for a short period. What’s wrong with the Watch?
What model Apple Watch do you own and do you use Always on with your watch (available on Apple Watch 7, 8 and Ultra)? If you have always on turned on, its supposed to dim automatically, depending on how many seconds you've set the screen to stay bright (15 or 70 seconds).

it’s an SE model and it’s not set for always on as far as I know as the screen does go blank.
You're right. And Apple Watch SE does not support Always on Display. I'd suggest scheduling an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show the behavior to Apple.
