I recently inherited a MacBook Pro w/ High Sierra. I'd like to upgrade the OS. The App Store offers Ventura which won't install on my Mac. Ok, I understand that. My Mac is from mid 2012. But I should be able to install Monterey or Big Sur. Unfortunately I can't find these anywhere. Am I on a fool's errand or is there any hope of success? My only previous Mac experience was writing code in MPW on a Macinrosh IIsi.

It sounds like Catalina should already be in the App Store. My App Store has only one MacOS namely Ventura which won't load on my old MacBook Pro. There is no High Sierra, Mojave, or Catalina MacOS. It doesn't even offer these for sale.

If I use Safari browser on my Mac and click on the High Sierra link in How to download macOS - Apple Support for example. it takes me directly to High Sierra in the App Store. Same for Catalina.
A mid 2012 through early 2013 MacBook Pro can be upgraded to Catalina 10.15.7 but no later. See: How to download macOS - Apple Support
