Apple Support says that I can recover deleted messages by clicking Edit (while in Messages) and choosing Show Recently Deleted. It says I need to be in iOS 16 or better to do so. I am in iOS 16.1 and do not have the option to Show Recently Deleted in my Edit menu.
Suggestions?

Recently Deleted will not appear unless you deleted a message........after.......you installed iOS 16 on your phone. The messages will remain in Recently Deleted for about 30 days before they are permanently deleted.
If you deleted messages......before.....you installed iOS 16, those messages are gone.
