I have an old 2012 iMac running Catalina and a new 2021 iMac with Monterey. Can I use the old Mac as an extended monitor? The old Mac AirPlay Display shoes off and does not recognise the new Mac. The receive has ben enabled in the new Mac?

There is no target display mode support to a 2012 iMac from a 2021 iMac. No longer supported. Purchase a traditional external display for use with your new iMac.
