Can I wipe photos from iPad / iPhone and still have them in icloud

Apple does make changes on a regular basis for iPhone and iPad. Depending on your requirements some are good some are bad.

Bad for me is the inability to put files, photos etc on iCloud and delete them from my iPad /  iPhone and thus clear up space.

Now I know there are a number of workarounds but is there anyway to do it directly i.e. send them directly from my iPhone to the cloud and wipe from my phone thus saving valuable space but still have them nice and safely tucked safely away ?

No, there is not. iCloud is not independent archival storage. It is a data synchronization service. So when you delete a file on the device, you delete it in iCloud and across all devices sharing that iCloud account.

To store your photos and delete them off the device without losing them, you’ll need to archive those photos to a laptop/desktop hard drive or some other online archival storage service.
