Using Apple Configurator to manage Family Devices

Searched Google, YouTube etc... everything points to Organizational Management...

UseCase: I have several Apple devices, and I would like to repurpose and setup an iPad and iPhone for a child and would like to be able to do that, and manage those devices, like an organization manages theirs on an Enterprise level (Allow/Restrict apps, put filters and monitors in place, collect logs etc...) how does one go about setting up a device for Personal Management/Supervision etc without being a company and enrolling in Apple School Manager, Apple Business Manager, or Apple Business Essentials?

Perhaps it's a simple solution and I'm just not finding it within Configurator2, but I feel I should be able to connect a device and manage it top to bottom without having to be a company, or setup a separate server using Configurator2

Any suggestions?

iPad, iOS 10

You can’t use Apple Configurator to do that. You can, however, use a third-party tool to do the same thing. I would recommend iMazing as it can do all of what you want. It supports adding profiles, setting up supervision, and can do everything Configurator can do. In order to use supervision you will need to add an organization to it’s library, but it does not require setting up an account for the organization.

Thank you everyone. Question: how did those using configurator bypass the Apple Business membership stuff?

I liked the “Restrictions” setting better than Screentime - it seemed like you had better control over everything like hiding apps completely from the device, I wish they would bring that fine control back.

keep the suggestions coming, I’m going to try iMazing and Configurator options for now

Family Sharing's ScreenTime feature is a strong starting point. There are other apps out there such as OurPact, Bark, and FamilyTime that use the MDM framework to extend what is possible in the enterprise to family devices. I use Apple Configurator to supervise all of our devices (which allows for additional functionality from the parental management apps). I also have a few profiles configured within it to deploy things like Wi-Fi without having to enter it on every device.

Hey there - just wondering how it's going. I also saw recently an app called Grace (grace-app.com) that leverages the Screen Time API. However, it is limited to the Family Sharing relationships - you cannot use it to bring sanity to your own device or that of another adult in your household. This, in my opinion, if I understand it right, is a great shortcoming in Apple's approach.
