can't share iCloud document

So I put a document in my iCloud drive, and ask to share it. I type in an e-mail address (someone who it recognizes as being in my contact list), and it comes back with "People couldn't be added. There may be a problem with your server. Please try again later".

Except I just before that shared the document with myself at another e-mail address, so a problem with my server seems unlikely. What's going on?

This is not helpful. First of all, I'm running OS 12.6.1 Monterey. So compatability isn't even close to being an issue. Secondly, I clearly stated what my problem was with trying to share a document I put in my iCloud drive. I still don't have a clue why I'm having that problem, and that Apple Support document doesn't address it.

Please, if you want to respond to my question, then really respond to it. Don't just talk around it.

Hello Dannymac22,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We're happy to look into this with you. We've been reviewing Use iCloud to share and collaborate on files and folders - Apple Support and under the first section, the following is stated:

Use iCloud to share and collaborate on files and folders

You can use iCloud Drive to share files and folders with others so you can collaborate on projects together. The people you invite can download the shared items from iCloud to any of their devices, where they can view them and—depending on the privileges you set—collaborate. You can see any updates the next time you open the files on your Mac.

Note: To use iCloud Drive folder sharing, your computer or device must have macOS version 10.15.4 or later, iOS version 13.4 or later, or iCloud for Windows version 11.1 or later.

For information about iCloud Drive and setting it up on your Mac, see Use iCloud Drive to store documents.

Are you running a compatible version of macOS ? According to the details above, you'd need to at least being running 10.15.4 on your Mac. What version do you happen to have installed? Let us know and we'll be happy to continue researching possible solutions.

Best regards.
