Hey there, i can't seem to get any sound from my Macbook Pro laptop. Just get this lil circle image with a cross through it. help?

Since you appear to have already seen the Apple sound troubleshooting article since it is linked at the top left of this page, I can only assume those suggestions did not work.


The only other things I can suggest are:

  • Reboot the laptop -- sometimes things get stuck and this un-sticks them.
  • Try a PRAM Reset (hold for at least two chimes --- three chimes if a non-USB-C Mac)
  • Play some audio and check the headphone jack to see if there is red light inside -- indicates the jack is bad which can be a common problem with older models (sometimes can be "fixed"). Headphones or external speakers will likely work fine.


Otherwise, you will need to have the laptop repaired unless you want to use headphones or external speakers.


FYI, when you ask for assistance on the forums you should always provide the exact model of the Mac and version of macOS since certain models & configurations may have their own unique issues or troubleshooting measures. You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac".
