Notes using excessive storage on iPhone vs. iPad

My Apple Notes sync through iCloud and I have the same set on my MacBook Air, iPhone and iPad. None with videos or anything very media rich in it. Not many handwritten.

On the iPad they take up just over 1GB of storage. The SAME notes on iPhone take up over 40GB!! Anyone any idea how to solve this? I already erased the iPhone and set it back up again and the full 40GB worth came back!

Thanks,

Clive

Hi Lee_ms,

Sorry saw this, didn't get a notification. Anyway on iPhone in Settings > General > About I can't tell how much space Notes specifically is using but it's showing only 20GB free on my 128GB phone. In Settings > General > iPhone Storage is where I see the iPhone using 40.49GB of the entire device (about 1/3!), and same amount of free space (about 20GB) as shown above. Whereas the iPad with the SAME exact synchronized notes is showing 1GB for the same notes. This is the big problem.

Notes is only synchronized with one (the same) iCloud account on both devices and no other accounts.

I'm running 16.1.1, so latest yes.

Let me know what other debug information I can supply - I'm a software guy so please feel free to ask a bit of me technically than most.

Take care,

Hi evilcbc,

Are you seeing this storage issue when you go to Settings > General > About, and when you view it in Settings > General iPhone Storage? We want to make sure that it's being displayed properly on the device. Are you running the latest iOS version? We always recommend updating to get the latest patches and features. Are you syncing notes with any other account on your iPhone? We would like to get a better understanding of your issue.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Take care.
