Hi,
Since updating to 16.1 my torch now turns itself off and become nonfunctional until the camera app is open and closed.
I’ve seen this has happened to others in the past but can find a fix

It sounds like your flash isn't working as expected, and you can follow these instructions for troubleshooting:

I took my phone to the Apple Store and they are replacing the device.
