HomePods Keep Stopping Playing Music

In the past couple of months, especially with the 16.0 update, I've run into the problem where my OG HomePods and Mini's stop playing music randomly--in the middle of a song. This is occurs about 5 - 10 minutes into asking them to "play something I like everywhere." The Home app shows them all paused, and sometimes, the Home app says that they are all playing, but one of the mini's or OG HomePod's won't be emitting any sound at all, or the Home app will be saying that they are not playing when they are. Asking Siri to "resume" does nothing, as she says she can't do so.

This is extremely annoying, especially when I have guests over and the music just randomly stops. These things have not worked reliably since the day I got them. The Home app, while updated and now more cumbersome to use itself, is just as unreliable at managing them as it was before. I just don't get it. I can't believe I pay $10 a month for Apple Music, on top of the over a thousand dollars on these speakers for such unreliability.

I have a pretty fast home network that runs on four eero pro 6's. I've tried disabling Dolby Atmos as well as Lossless, but the problem continues. I've tried turning off thread in eero as well as leaving it on. No difference. I have client steering turned on but fear turning that off as then, well, as I move from room to room with a device I'd have to manually reconnect to the nearest router, ugh.

Does anyone have any advice? I see that the problem is actually widespread, and has been for years, although I've just begun to experience it with the latest update in this fashion. I'm ready to throw them all out a window at this point. And to witness as new options are added while these bugs continue is beyond infuriating.

I am not using Eero products... I am using Ubiquiti network router, switch and APs but have the intermittent issues with Apple Music streams randomly stopping, so don't think it's a local network problem. After I started using Spotify I stopped having the problem.

I too had this frustrating problem. I started using Spotify and the issue went away. Disappointing that Apple Music doesn't work properly with Apple products.

Eero is not an Apple product. Apple got out of the Wi-Fi box business some years ago, with the end of AirPort and Time Capsule and related. This Apple Music stuff works fine with Ubiquiti APs (wired or wireless backhaul), which tends to point to issues with the erro configuration, or with the local wireless environment, or potentially both. (Hence my previous recommendations.)

I’d test with eero either configured not as a mesh (if that option is available), or with HomePods temporarily located on another Wi-Fi network, or with a different Wi-Fi here.

See where (if) the problems move.

Also check for and apply the most current available eero firmware update.

How to configure eero for static addressing should be discussed in the eero documentation. (Or on the ‘net.) Whether a static IP address (“reservation”m as eero calls it) will help here is unclear.

Update... I called Apple tech support. They suggested it may be a bad HomePod, and suggested I unplug one at a time and see if it still happens. I have so many, this would take a while, and I'm pretty sure this isn't the issue. They also suggested that since my iPad is older and hasn't updated to IOS 16.1 that could be the issue... hmmm...

I contacted Eero to see if they might have a solution or know something. I was surprised that the tech support person there literally had no idea what an Apple HomePod was... mini or OG. I had to tell him several times it was a wifi smart speaker. Anyway, the one thing they suggested was that it was my DNS was roaming and going out. They made it so I had a static DNS. Since then, things have cleared up considerably; however, the Home App is still slow to capture what is going on with the HomePod's, and I've had a few pauses with them... just not as many as before.
