Connecting a monitor to my (early 2015) MacBook Pro

Hi everyone,

I want to buy an LG 34" ultra wide monitor to use with my MacBook Pro early 2015. The monitor has USB-C but my MacBook doesn't. Until I can upgrade to a newer Mac, how can I connect it to my current Mac? The monitor also has DisplayPort and HDMI ports. Is a Mini-Displayport to DisplayPort the best option?

That Mac can support a 4K display over ThunderBolt-2.

The HDMI port on that Mac is only good for 4K at 30Hz, short of most folks' expectations.

So yes, the best way would be a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, which is NOT an adapter -- merely a re-wire for the different sized plug. That should give you 4K at 60Hz.
