Connect monitors

How can i connect my iMac to my Macbook air? I need to use my iMac as a second monitor. I bought a USC type-c pub, but I think I am missing something. Thanks!

that feature is being phased out.

The other Mac that you're connecting it to must have been introduced in 2019 or earlier and have macOS Catalina or earlier installed.
