Not finished set up need to reset password macbook pro

I recently purchased the newer MacBook pro M2 chip, don't know what info needed to help with a solution for me, but I have always had the worst memory ever. Though I have written it down it didn't work and any variation of the password didn't work and I think I may have typed something wrong thinking I was typing what I had written down. At this point I already know I don't deserve to set eyes on apple products because I'm a serial password forgetter, but if anyone has any advice for me I would so appreciate it. I only partially started setting it up I wasn't able to get apple ID info set up because I was at work it got busy and when I finally got back to it well "access denied". She still has that new car smell still in the box.

Anyway thanks for taking the time if there is even a solution for my carelessness.

You can try changing the macOS user password by using the instructions in this Apple article:

https://support.apple.com/HT202860

Otherwise you will need to "Restore" the firmware on the laptop by using the instructions in this Apple article which will erase the laptop & push a new copy of the OS onto the laptop so it will be factory fresh again so you can start the setup process over again. If you don't have access to another Mac running macOS 10.15+, then you can take the laptop to Apple to have them assist you in Restoring the firmware.
