Monterey 12.6 - Mouse Lag After Sleep

Yesterday I upgraded my Mac mini (2018) from Big Sur directly to Monterey 12.6. Ever since then, I'm experiencing mouse pointer lag (as if the frame rate has dropped) which makes using my Mac a slow and frustrating experience.

However, this only happens after I've woken my Mac from sleep. It doesn't happen if I restart and prevent my Mac from sleeping.

But it occurs both my user account, and also the guest account.

At first I thought it was something to do with Bluetooth since I use a Magic Mouse 2 (wireless), but I tried connecting an old Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical USB (wired) and had exactly the same problem.

My Mac mini previously had Catalina installed on it, and then Big Sur, and never had this mouse pointer lag problem. So it's definitely related to Monterey, in my experience.

Really hoping some of you have a solution to this. 🙏

A temporary workaround to avoid Monterey mouse lag...

Instead of putting my Mac mini to sleep, I'm now clicking on "Lock Screen" when I leave my desk, and in System Preferences I've ticked "Prevent your Mac from automatically sleeping when the display is off".

This isn't great for energy usage, because my Mac mini now never sleeps. But at least I don't encounter the mouse lag problem. 👍

Update (24 Oct)... it's not the mouse, it's the refresh rate of the monitor.

When I boot up my Mac mini (which has an LG 23.7'' UltraFine 4K Monitor is its display) it runs at the Default for Display resolution, at a refresh rate of 60 Hertz.

However, when I put my Mac mini to Sleep, and then wake it from Sleep, the refresh rate changes from 60 Hertz down to 30 Hertz, which is why the mouse pointer appears to lag.

This has only started happening since I installed Monterey. So, what can I do to fix it? Any suggestions?
