Setting Outlook as my default Calendar

I have the same issue as raised in this post:

Setting Outlook as my default calendar - Apple Community

I have set the default email app to Outlook as per this example from that post - however the Apple Calendar continues to open as the default app when I download an invite.

The previous response was to talk to Microsoft - which seems ludicrous, given that the setting for the default app is made within the Apple Calendar app... Can someone from apple please explain WHY this is a behaviour that is driven by Microsoft/Outlook rather than a behaviour driven by Apple Calendar/MacOS?

Thanks!

Thanks Less,

I have already followed those directions, and selected Outlook as the default calendar app.

My issues is that despite having selected outlook as the default calendar app, the Mac Calendar app still opens downloaded ics files.(even after complete reboot)

this appears to be the same issue raised in the post I referenced, and there was no resolution. I am hoping that someone can help to debug this issue as I have the correct settings in place

thanks! Tony

Hello TonywilkAU,

You're able to change preferences in your Mac to set up Outlook as your default calendar as well. Check out this link to learn more: Change General preferences in Calendar on Mac - Apple Support. As you can see, at the top of the page it allows you to select the version of Mac that you're using, which will ensure it offers you the proper troubleshooting steps. If you're unsure what version of the macOS you use, you can use this guide to help: Find out which macOS your Mac is using - Apple Support.

In the Calendar app on your Mac, choose Calendar > Preferences, then click General. From here under Default calendar app, you can choose Outlook as the default calendar.

Best wishes!
