HLS Media, specifically iTunes movie purchase

My most recent purchase was not appended with the extension ".m4v" but with ".hls"

This one solitary movie cannot be played through home sharing from my Mac to AppleTV (box). If fact HLS media cannot be accessed through Home Sharing. This is just ludicrous. Does this now mean I have to Airplay the movie from the iMac? If so, it will be very inconvenient. The only other option I have now is to stream the movie on AppleTV if I do not wish to AirPlay from the iMac.

Surely AppleTV OS needs an update so that it can play HLS movies from my iTunes movie library (Home Sharing).
