My Mac (especially Finder) is very slow, probably due to iCloud

Since I activated iCloud Drive on my MacBook Pro 16" from 2019 it got very slow. Especially Finder is very unresponsive when moving or deleting files. It usually takes around 15 - 30 seconds to move or delete a file/ folder (which feels unnatural to me). I already did a complete reset of the OS and installed everything from scratch, however the issue came back when turning on iCloud.

I also investigated the common known issues like low disk space, running out of RAM, removing unnecessary apps and startup items. Sadly this also did not resolve the issue.

Does anyone face the same issues or know how to fix this?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.2

Hi jan-kreischer,

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Thank you for your question to the Apple community of Apple users, like yourself.

Wondering if it helps to use the power adapter instead of the Mac's battery

or

Use Activity Monitor to see if a particular app or activity is making a large demand on your Mac

or

If you have multiple files on the desktop, try dragging therm all into a folder on the desktop,

and see if there's any improvement with the Finder.

or

'If there are a lot of hefty files in the trash, emptying the trash may help. (Restart Mac after.)

or

As it may be something to do with iCloud Drive / internet, see if clearing things from cache, cookies, Safari history, helps.

(Have noticed this can help with internet use on my MacBook Po)

All the best :-)
