Hello, Dean-Smith.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

If you have an iPhone follow these steps:

Start by making sure that you're using the latest iOS version: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support You may also want to try a different cable or charging source if possible. Sometimes this can help with charging issues.

To update your iPhone wirelessly, use the following steps:

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. Choose the software update that you want to install. You can choose to stay on iOS or iPadOS 15 and still get important security updates. Or you can choose the option to upgrade to iOS or iPadOS 16.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

If your iPhone is up to date, check to be sure your AirPods firmware is also up to date: About firmware updates for AirPods - Apple Support

"To use your iPhone or iPad to check that your AirPods are up to date, make sure that you have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. Go to Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods. Tap the "More Info" button , then scroll down to the About section to find the firmware version.

To use your Mac to check that your AirPods are up to date, make sure that you have the latest version of macOS. From the Apple menu , Option-click the Apple logo, then choose System Information. Click Bluetooth, then look under your AirPods for the firmware version.

Latest firmware versions

If you're still having charging issues after the steps above, contact Apple Support.

Cheers!
