After 2 hours with tech support, and a visit to my local Verizon store, I am unable to hear a text alert on my watch. The haptics do work, just no audible alert? I do hear an audible alert on other apps such as outlook though.

Have you Force Restarted your watch? It can cure odd niggles.
Press and hold BOTH the digital crown and power button and keep holding them together until you see the Apple Logo, then let go. Sign back in and see if any change to sounds.
Interesting, 1st I’ve heard of that. Sadly no change though. Thank you, I do appreciate your efforts. I did see a post from 2020, same exact situation. At that time it was stated it was a known issue. Apple engineers were working on it. Apparently resolved back then.
New is always fun. I got the Series 7 in Stainless Steel last year, but when the Ultra was revealed, I just had to get one and I have to say, Apple has NEVER offered such a cool Apple Watch as the Ultra.
When you open the Watch App on your iPhone and go to Messages, what settings are set?
I would choose Custom > Allow Notifications > Sound and Haptic ON
Honestly, I haven't enjoyed an Apple Watch this much since I got my first Apple Watch. It's simply, utterly AWESOME!
Thank you, those are my current settings. I failed to mention that I have factory reset both my phone and watch (More than once), rebuilding both from scratch.
When you are expecting a notification on your watch, is your iPhone screen active? If it is, you won't get a sound on your watch.
Understood, strictly when screen is locked / asleep.
I don't think this is a common or known issue. Certainly hasn't been one on any Apple Watch I've owned, from Series 3 to 4 to 7 and not on Apple Watch Ultra.
