Touch ID icon disappeared.

Touch ID icon now missing after I attempted to re-do fingerprint. Had suddenly and mysteriously stopped prompting me for Touch ID so I deleted the current fingerprint and restarted . Now the Touch ID icon is completely missing from system preferences! Extremely frustrating and I see prior similar questions were now adequately answered. So how do I get the application back!?!?!?
