If the environment is very dusty, you might want to consider them, otherwise I wouldn't say they're "recommended." They're no more necessary on a 2021 MBP than for any other computer's ports.

They're not part of the cooling system. There's no reason they should create an overheating issue any more than if you were plugging in a peripheral, so no.
