iOS 16 changed Siri’s voice to a muffled and slowed female voice

Before anyone says it, no, I dont have low power mode on and even if I did, I dont have it set to the default female voice.

I checked my settings one day and looked into updates as I havent done one in a while and noticed I had access to iOS 16. I jumped to install that instead of whatever iOS 15 I had next. After the installation, I noticed that my Siri’s voice (Australian, Male, Voice 1) was changed to the muffled slowed female voice whenever I got an iMessage notification read to me and if I responded. It gave me the voice I had it set to for any other notifications but iMessages. Now today, I hear the muffled female voice with all of my messages.

Could this be from low storage? I have another update pending(16.0.3) but I do not know if it’ll fix the issue.

Hello thenorthwesthuskies,

To start, if you do have an update available it's always a good idea to install that first to rule out a software bug as the cause.

While low storage shouldn't necessarily affect the way a Siri voice sounds, being low on storage can cause random performance issues to occur. If you are almost out of storage, it's certainly a good idea to clear some things out on the device to free up storage. Apple recommends always having at least 1 GB of storage available for the device perform properly. If you have less than 1 GB of available space, then you'll definitely want to clear up some space.

About iOS or iPadOS performance on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Now looking at the Siri issue specifically, you can try changing the voice or language. Sometimes just temporarily changing it will clear up issues. In Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Voice, try changing to a different voice, then back to the original and test it out to see if the issue continues. If so, in Settings > Siri & Search, change the Language to something else. For example if you currently have it set to English (Australia) try changing it to English from another region, then change it back to the original and test out Siri again.

If none of that corrects the issue, then you'll want to contact Apple to report it: Get Support

Cheers!
