Shareplay Apple Music (or Spotify) ends the sharing when receiving or making calls

Hi there,

I'm testing out Shareplay (via iMessage) using Apple Music (and I also tried Spotify). It seems to be working okay'ish when you just do that, but the moment you receive or make a call, then the joined Shareplay sessions is stopped automatically, and the entire queue that you and your friend built is literally destroyed.

For you to restart it, you have to start a brand new shareplay session and build the entire queue you both built up together.

This doesn't seem right to me?

I'm using an iPhone 13 Pro on iOS 16.0.2. The other person is using an iPhone 12 also on iOS 16.0.2. I've updated to iOS 16.0.3 tonight and will test again tomorrow, but would love some comments from other users?

Hey there,

While preventing incoming calls would keep Shareplay working, that's definitely not a solution to the problem. What I'm saying is, that in the iOS system, this has to be handled differently.

  1. When a call comes in, the shareplay should remain active, but what is playing should pause (for the person receiving the call), and continue playing (where the Shareplay progress is at that time) after the call is ended.
  2. When a Shareplay session is interrupted (for whatever reason - network drop, etc), the session should still remain active for the participants that are still in the session, and the person that got interrupted must have the option to rejoin the session.

Hi rayno,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We understand you have some questions about SharePlay. We're happy to help. It sounds like the issue only happens when a call or notification interrupts the SharePlay session. If that's the case, try using Focus / Do Not Disturb when using SharePlay to prevent the interruption:

1. Go to Settings > Focus.
2. Tap Do Not Disturb.
3. Under Turn on Automatically, set Do Not Disturb to turn on automatically at a certain time, location, or while using a certain app.
4. To turn on Do Not Disturb from Control Center:
5. Open Control Center on your iPhone or iPod touch, or on your iPad
6. Touch and hold Focus, then tap Do Not Disturb.

See more about those steps here: Use Do Not Disturb with Focus on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Thanks.
