If you have access to a Mac, you can connect it via USB and read the serial number “electronically” in properties.


However, your best assurance of a genuine article is by purchasing from Apple or an authorized reseller and breaking the tamper-evident packaging seals yourself.


Modern counterfeiting can be - cosmetically - VERY convincing; to include the use of serial numbers of known valid units.


You are powering an Apple device; which by definition is a “pricy” outlay of hard-earned cash. Is your device’s only defense from mains voltage REALLY where you want to shave a few cents?
