Siri doesn't work on MacBook Air (M1, 2020)

I don't know why, but Siri on my MacBook Air M1 (bought two weeks ago) randomly stops working. It just doesn't start when I click on the icon in the menu bar or say "Hey Siri" (having enabled the feature). The only way to make it work again seems to be to reboot the computing and this is very annoying. Is it a bug on MacOS Monterey? Is there a way to fix it? Thanks for the support

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

3 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

4 - If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

5 - If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

6 - If after performing each of the above steps in the order that have been presents and still have issues - please advise for possible further assistance.

1 - Antivirus software: Apple and ESET

2 - GlobalProtectExtension - version 5.1.7-20 (Palo Alto Networks - 2020-10-21)

Part 1 of 3

There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

Additionally, and specific to Big Sur macOS 11 and Monterey macOS 12, the Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that can not be opened by the User and protects against from “ Bad Actor “ Software.

The Only thing this Antivirus software is protecting is the Bank Account of the Developers and for zero return to the User aside from the problems this software creates.

AntiVirus Developers purposefully Market their product to create a “ Fear Factor “. In so doing, creating a False Need for their Product.

Part 2 of 3

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS,  is an invitation for disaster and comprising the Operating System

Certain Applications maybe available on the Apple Apps Store - this only means the Developer is prepared to pay Apple a portion on each sale. What the Application may do to the computer is up to the User to check this out before purchase

Any of the below should be removed as per Developers Instructions

This will include CleanMyMac , This will include BitDefender

This will included Norton Antivirus , Sophos Av Software

Intego AntiVirus, McAfee, MacKeeper, Avast AntiVirus

Ad Guard, Webroot , ESET , Avira

AVG AntiVirus

Commercial VPNs should only be used if Mandated by Corporate Head Office for working remotely. Otherwise - ones Privacy and Security touted by the VPN is suspect

Thank you for the advice. I tried to restart in Safe Mode and that seemed to have solved the issue, since Siri was working. However, something strange happened: Siri wouldn't perform some tasks it generally does, such as setting a timer; it kept telling me there wasn't an app with which it could carry out my request (whereas previously it just set a reminder in the Reminders app). I assumed Safe Mode was the reason, but after rebooting in Normal Mode the issue persisted. So now I still have a problem, just of another kind (and it isn't even certain that the original problem has been solved, since even with that problem Siri usually worked after a reboot).

Edit: I tried erasing Siri & Dictation History and now it works like before. Hope the original issue doesn't return.

Safe Boot will eliminate Third Party Software, extension etc from Loading and will only load the Basic Elements of the Operating System for the computer to function. Be it at a reduced Functionality

The fact the Issue returned in a Normal Boot is systematic to some piece of Third Party software playing up

Understand, we are all working Remotely from all around the world.

Therefore, we do not have the On-Hands experience the User ( you ) has with this computer.

The next best thing for us to having a semi - actual On-Hand experience  with this computer is to follow the steps below

Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

The application is free or paid from added features.

It will take a Snap Shot -  both the hardware and software.

After restarting the Mac it works: https://youtu.be/QtYkPEFPOBk

Edit: OK, it works but it cannot set timers anymore (as in one of my previous replies). This is starting to become really annoying – I cannot keep restarting the Mac and disabling/enabling Siri just to make it work (also because I use Siri just for menial tasks that I can easily carry out on my own). Hope it's a system bug that will be solved with the next macOS.
