When sending an iMessage, sending an SMS text message or searching iMessages, there is a significant delay where the screen freezes and no input can be made.
If I continue to tap the keyboard, eventually it will catch up and remember what I typed.
This delay is aggravating. I've reset, hard reset, updated, etc. to no avail.
Anyone having this same issue?

Aside from general performance issues as outlined here: About iOS or iPadOS performance on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support ,there wouldn't be any normal settings or similar that would cause a delay in iMessage specifically.
If the steps there do not address this, you'll want to reach out to Apple to look into this with you further. You can do that here: Get Support

I have the same problem!! I went to Apple and they had me reset the phone...that did NOTHING. I have the 12 Max pro. I am so frustrated. I do not want to have to get a new phone! I am not sure what to do at this point. :(
