Airpods have no problem with Apple devices. However, the audio only played for about 1 minute on my Pixel 6 and then it distorts and cuts out completely. If I switch to another app I get the sound for a while and then the same thing happens. Are other users facing the same issue? Any work around apple?

I had exactly the same issue (Pixel 6 and APP2):
You need to enable developer settings on the phone and disable Bluetooth A2DP hardware offload
worked for me :-)
Apple does not make or support Android.
If they work normally on another device, your issues are caused by the pixel hardware or software., which is out of Apple’s control.
I can tell you my AirPods work just fine on a Samsung phone I have from work.
I can also tell you there are numerous online sources about pixel 6 Bluetooth, cellular and WiFi issues.
I've been gaslighted into thinking that other's firmware isn't right by both the customer cares. where do I go now for help?
If it is a firmware issue with the AirPods, the only way to update it is through an iPhone.
I've the latest firmware in my air pods. They meant it can be addressed through future firmware updates if it's an issue with airpods.
I would not count on it.
