My MacBook Air has Wi-Fi but won’t connect to the internet. I’ve tried lots of solutions, but none have helped. I’m thinking of resetting my laptop to factory settings and starting over. Is there a down side to this?

Thanks, John. I’ve tried all of those options. I’m going to erase everything and start as if I have a new computer. And I’ll try connecting to the internet before adding things from my backup. Fingers crossed.
No, but it did say DNS connectivity failure.
Interesting. What does your Mac's network preferences say about DNS?
Network > Advanced > DNS
The address that appears under DNS Servers should be that of your router — a local IP address. Perhaps your router stopped issuing it, in which case that's where the problem lies.
If you ran Wireless Diagnostics, did its Summary page indicate "WAN Connectivity Failure"?
If so it just confirmed what you already know. The problem and solution may lie beyond the Mac.

Also, the problem started while I was traveling and didn’t resolve when I returned home.
